Have you ever been in Armenia? What are your first impressions about the city of Jermuk?

This is my first visit to Armenia. Jermuk is very beautiful, the nature is just admirable: the mountains, air, …. Local people’s good will leaves a good impression.

Which of the previous Grand Prix tournaments was more successful for you and what was the reason of it?

Victory in the third leg of Grand Prix, in Nalchik.

What expectations and objectives do you have from this tournament?

I wouldn’t like to guess beforehand. The tournament is just started, the struggle is to follow. Many things depend on player’s trained form before the tournament. Generally I assign the following goal: to show a good game, but depending on the course of events, I change my goal and task.

All Grand Prix tournaments have rather strong participants. What can you say about the participants of this tournament? Do you think there are favorites?

The participants are very strong and bright. The participation of three World champions speaks for itself. The results of the first round showed that the participants are disposed very seriously, that is why I have difficulty in indicating the favorite.

Which important traits do you appreciate in people? How do you want to see the world champion?

Traits: honesty, kindness, purposefulness. I see the world champion as a charismatic person and devoted to chess.

The Grand Prix men’s tournament was devoted to the 80th anniversary of the world champion Tigran Petrosian and this tournament is devoted to the 100th anniversary of the famous chess composer Genrikh Kasparian. Are you familiar with his creations?

Of course I am familiar with Genrikh Kasparian’s compositions, they help chess-players to develop imagination and creativity. I really enjoy when I try to discover composers’ plans and ideas.
